Jane Rau and Jerry Rau will Present “Generational Differences in the Pipeline Workforce” as a webinar on October 28, at 10 a.m. CDT

This training has the minimum required to hold the class. Further information to be provided upon registration.

Currently, there are five generations working in the oil and gas pipeline industry. Each have unique communication styles, generational viewpoints and motivations. The US Department of Labor predicts that up to 50 percent of the current energy workforce will retire in five to ten years. It has been predicted by some Industry Managers that it takes two to five years to become familiar with the industry and another 10 or more years to take on a leadership position. Pipeline operators, who depend on skilled, long-term workers, are feeling the pinch. As valuable people walk out your door, valuable knowledge leaves with them. Often that knowledge isn’t encoded in documentation produced on the job, so how companies transfer and manage this hand-off is critical to their ongoing success. This webinar will describe the processes used to identify and prioritize critical organizational knowledge and the need to transfer that knowledge among the representative generational groups. There are several approaches to transferring knowledge, through every generational transition from Baby Boomers to Millennials, and these methods will be described. We will discuss how to create a work environment that fosters knowledge sharing between generations, strategies to address different working styles while reducing employee tension and improving productivity, and finally methods to incorporate knowledge transfer into training programs.

1.5 PDHs with Certificate of Completion provided.

Jane Rau, JTrain-Inc.com

Jane has evolved from a teacher of students to a teacher of teachers. Jane’s more than 30 years of experience in the classroom provides unique perspectives, both educationally and culturally, for students, teachers, and administrators. These perspectives are derived from teaching in the Middle East, Title I urban schools of New Orleans and Houston, and traveling to 83 countries.

Her goal is to improve the quality of education and she has applied the skills necessary to collaborate with her peers in reaching this goal of enhanced quality education. Obtaining her Master’s degree in Teacher Leadership and Curriculum at a “mature” age describes the ambition, focus, and drive she employs in her vocation and her passion as a lifelong learner.

Whether delivering content in teacher effectiveness classes or coaching individual teachers, she employs humor as a medium to convey knowledge to bring the “fun” back into learning. Jane is currently working on a PRCI project to assist the training and knowledge transfer of NDE technicians working in the pipeline Industry. She has also co-authored and presented a paper for PPIM 2017 entitled “Closing the Generational Gap.”

Jane earned her BA in Special Education at the University of Wisconsin and her M.Ed. at Lamar University in Texas. She is a member of ASCD and Learning Forward.
