David Willoughby will present “Pipeline AC Interference and Mitigation” on August 26, 2021 2021.

 

The AC Interference and Mitigation webinar is offered as a 6.5-hour course that covers the principles of AC interference and mitigation on pipelines. This course addresses the basics of AC circuits, AC interference, how to predict the effects of the AC interference on pipelines, and current methods and equipment used in AC mitigation. Course topics include the basic principles of AC circuits, induced AC pipeline voltages, shock hazards, AC corrosion, fault conditions, AC modeling, AC mitigation, and AC measurement techniques. This course utilizes a combination of theory and practical.

Course Objective:

The objective of this course is for each student to understand the fundamentals of AC interference and AC modeling and mitigation. The course is designed to provide the student with knowledge of AC interference and mitigation design.

Target Audience:

Pipeline, utility, and consulting engineers and other technical individuals with the responsibility of AC interference control on pipelines.

Instructor Bio

David A. Willoughby
RK&K Director, Energy & Corrosion (ret)

Mr. Willoughby has 38 years of experience in engineering, design, corrosion control, and management in the petroleum and utilities industries. His experience includes gas transmission and distribution systems, petroleum facilities, and water/sewer facilities from conception through design, construction and testing, economic evaluation, and project field supervision. Mr. Willoughby is a NACE certified cathodic protection specialist and maintains other active NACE and API certifications. During his career Mr. Willoughby has gained significant experience and training in the corrosion and cathodic protection of pipelines and facilities. His primary areas of expertise include performing engineering feasibility studies; performing corrosion evaluations and assessments; and recommendation and design of corrosion control measures for storage tanks and pipeline facilities. Mr. Willoughby has been actively involved in numerous AC Interference, AC Modeling and AV Mitigation projects. He has a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering and has affiliations with the American Society of Petroleum Engineers, Professional Institute of Pipeline Engineers, Petroleum Equipment Institute, and the National Association of Corrosion Engineers.
